New MPAA Trailer Font -- change we can believe in

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) updated its pre-trailer screen on April 16th. We're looking at a drastic change from MICROSOFT SANS SERIF, my font of choice, to GOTHAM, President Obama's font of choice. Suffice it to say, the change to GOTHAM is a change we can believe in.

Because we only get short glimpses of MPAA screens in front of trailers, here they are below to compare at your own pace.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 -- just another reboot

Spider-Man 1 and Spider-Man 2 are two of my favorite movies. Spider-Man 1 is nostalgic, and Spider-Man 2 is, simply put, a damn good movie. It's better than any of the lead-ups to The Avengers, and The Avengers. It's on par with The Dark Knight, in terms of a rating out of 10, but that's not really a fair comparison. (Point: Lost and Sesame Street are equally good TV shows, but we can't objectively debate which is better).

Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled with The Amazing Spider-Man. It was almost a carbon copy of the first Spider-Man, in terms of structure. Watching the movie in theaters was entertaining mostly  because it brought me back to the originals. (I did like James Horner's score, despite the fact that it was suspiciously similar to the score from Spider-Man: The Game, an amazing video game based on the original movie.)

What was funniest about the lead-up to The Amazing Spider-Man was how hard the production team was trying to differentiate it from the original series...

Peter would be lankier... He would be in high school for the entire movie... Mary Jane wouldn't make an appearance... Peter would use mechanical web-shooters... His suit would be really weird...

We would be told The Untold Story.

But now, in the lead-up to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we're apparently going back to basics...

Peter is facing at least two villains... Harry and Norman Osborn are back... So is Mary Jane...

The absolute best reversion, and what prompted me to write this post, is the change from Spidey's weird suit. Apparently, the sequel will have audiences believe that Andrew Garfield never even wore a weird suit to begin with.

Conclusion: I can't wait for the reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man! Or, as I predict it will be called, The (Different Adjective) Spider-Man. (Spectacular? Superior? Fantastic? I dunno).

(By the way, I have a theory that the next logical step after reboots will be "retroboots" -- attempts by studios to bring back series that have already been rebooted. For instance, Spider-Man 4 starring Tobey Maguire. To my credit, I theorized this before the announcement of the return of 24, which, in my eyes, had already been rebooted by its creators with Homeland).

John Mayer's Paper Doll -- filming location

Yesterday, John Mayer released his new single in the form of a lyric video on his Vevo. I am neither a John Mayer fan nor am I even close to being knowledgeable about popular music. I came across the video via friends on Facebook and Twitter. My thirst for answers led me to the video's location on Google Maps -- Fort Lauderdale, FL.

To find the location, I simply paused the video when street signs were visible and Googled away. I double-checked my findings using Street View. (By the way, this task would have been incredibly difficult with the new Google Maps. I reverted to Classic for the purpose.)
